Dream analysis as psychotherapy

Throughout the world, dreams have accompanied the human experience serving as a conduit to higher perspectives and intuitive but practical insight

for navigating earthly demands. Modern depth psychotherapy has discovered that working with the symbolic imagery from our dreams engenders and facilitates significant personal and spiritual growth making dreams an ideal source of workable, psychological material. Through participating in a dialogue with our dreams, we expand our inner awareness giving us greater access to authenticity, self-empowerment, and purpose.

Balance and wholeness not perfection

Our inner world is a kaleidoscope of potential. Due to our personal and cultural histories, certain aspects of our psychic landscape have been emphasized and celebrated while others have been disavowed and suppressed. These neglected aspects of the psyche do not go away, they remain hidden yet energetically present, influencing our attitudes and beliefs from beyond conscious control.

Dreams represent a natural pathway for the psyche to restore equilibrium by bringing these unconscious potentials into our awareness. In the process, the dreams are highly effective for communicating which internal qualities authentically belong to your character and which ones had been artificially imposed. The result of a successful analysis is to emerge with a stronger and more balanced connection to the inner Self.

A dream therapy session begins with telling the dream

Telling the dream in a therapeutic relationship animates the soul. The psyche recognizes that time and space has been dedicated towards its understanding and, consequently, dream activity will become more pronounced. We will collaborate together to analyze in closer detail the personal associations connected to the images. When appropriate, we will bring in collective, or mythic, layers of information to add context and weight to the personal. This process gradually develops and expands into a fuller picture of what the dream could possibly mean.

Over time, the dreams, like a master novelist or artist, builds upon themes that had been introduced from earlier dream experiences. When working with dreams over a long period of time, one gets the definite sense of participating in an ongoing conversation with an inner presence of guidance and wisdom. It is one thing to receive advice from another person, it is another to hear it from the enlivened voice within ... our goal is to maintain fidelity to the dream
